Bloger accounts and Picasa Web Album - an advice

My regular readers might recall I have complained about the Fact I can not upload images to my blog due to what Google, who now owns Blogger, allege: You have reached your limit of free storage for images.

I could not understand how I possible could reach the 1 GB limit.

This evening I checked it out by controlling what was stored in my Picasa Web Album (which I've never asked for - but has now been an obligated part of your Blogger account).

Guess what:
Most of my photos, used only once in my blog were duplicated and triplicated. In average more than 4 times. One was stored 11 times! In different ways and shapes.
I've now spent several hours to delete the "extra" copies. I've only checked about one third of my unwanted Picasa Web Album. It will take up to 24 hours until the result of my deletion will be realized. How fun?

If you do not believe me, I'll send you a print screen upone request.

I ask my self:
Is this just a programming failure, or is it a way to cheat "dummy" bloggers to pay more than they actual should?

So, if you have a Blogger account - check your Picasa Web Album and what is stored there.

Have a great weekend

That's interesting, Tor. I haven't checked my Picasa Album. It will be interesting to see what's there.

Sounds very strange and tricky, but does not surprise me. However; typical you to dig in to things like that and never give up.
Thanks for sharing - good advice!

Wishing both you and Anna a great end to your week :-)

I found out about that some time ago. I think I read about it on another blog. When I checked, I had lots of duplicates. It happens (for me anyway) when you upload a picture and change your mind about posting it, or choose another similar one. They get deleted from the blog but they stay on Picasaweb. Now I check quite regularly, and also I resize everything quite small and low resolution. I've become a bit fanatical and sometimes the quality isn't as good as it should be.

Have a good weekend Tor and Anna!

What I understood is that if you use a picture on a blog it's listed in Picasa Album and if you used it 11 times over the years it's there 11 times. If you delete it it will be delited on all your posts. Be careful !
Maybe I misunderstood.
I have no problems with my private blog on Mr. Gattino's email address. I just copy and paste. Belgians are specialists in conturning laws, taxes and other stuff which makes your life difficult,so living here since 50 years has teached me not to bother about such little inconviniences, just find another way. Look at the Belgian government and you will understand, lol !

I'll need to go and check and see if I even have one. My puppy account is a blogger one. For Dackel Princess I have a Flickr account.

Wow what a mess!! Welcome to wordpress...conversion is easy! hehehe! Maybe it is time you got a space of your own, with your own domain name and stuff. I have thought about it but put it off. Or you can of course continue to fight with blogger! Am I to understand that you can no longer use flickr??

I never signed in to Picassa. It sounds rather complicated. Does that mean you can't upload to your blogger a picture because of Picassa?

@Shosana: It's not complicated at all.
I have no choice at all. Every image/Photo I post in my blog will be saved at the Picasa Web Album, wheter I want it or not. The problem is that one photo have been stored in this Web Album not onle one time, but uptil 12 times.
Then, when it it's a limit for free storing, you can imagine....

I've been aware of this problem, deleted several duplicate photos, then returned a few days later to shift some more.

Guess what - Google has removed the 'delete' button from the Picas Web Albums page.

Does make me suspect the idea is to get people to hit their 1GB limit and pay for more space.

I think it's wrong to stop people from deleting duplicate files.
