Papa goes shopping and Nuts

Saturday February 17 - 2007 New Saturday – new shopping list. Written on an used envelope. We practise recycling and reuse in this household. At least when Anna does not have anything else within reach.

This Saturday I managed to keep the list together with the banking card. And she even gave me a 10 crown piece for the shopping cart (deposit in order to have people to return the carts to the cart-stands - works excellent. False coins are a very popular give-away's).

The list consisted of a.o. milk (specified), butter (my choice?), bread (my choice?), coffee (my choice?), vegs and fruits (my choice?), Skrei (Cod), cod-caviar, egg (My choice?), Newspaper(always the same), peanut- and rape-oil, crème fraîche, cream, cheese (my choice?), cat food (specified) and NUTS. Yes Nuts. Not at all specified.

Nuts, I thought, why not? And I went nuts.

Hazels, Pistachios, Brazil nuts, Pecan Nuts, Macadamia Nuts (don’t give them to dogs), Cashew Nuts and a large cup of self-mixed Nuts (yum, yum – candied almonds, yogurt-covered deli-nuts, sweet walnuts, fresh peanuts….).

Belowe: Saturday's catch on the Kitchen Table

Dinner

Entre: Melon and Parma (ham) in very thin slices

Main: Cod slivers (heated, not cooked) with cooked potatoes (organic – they taste heavenly), parsley butter and cod-caviar (not present at audition - blah). The picture show the Cod before preparation.

Desert: Sliced Pineapples scattered with fresh chopped, red hot chilli-pepper and real vanilla ice cream. Ice-cream not present at audition - another Blah.

Sunday I went for a short walk in the neighbourhood. Pictures here. You can learn a lot of Norwegian Suburban Surroundings and 1980's architecture.

A delightful supper, but I'm not sure if I would like the heated cod slivers. I like my fish cooked. And red hot chili peppers on pineapple? Does that taste good?

Ex-Shammickite: We heat the fish in water, but never cook it.The cooking dammage the structure, so we have in a kettle with watertemp at around 90-95C.
Pinapple with redpepper: With Ice cream it's not at all strong, just a little spicy.

You are quite the shopper! I think that is very interesting and a very good idea to put a deposit on the shopping cart.

I like most all types of nuts- Macadamia nuts were a favorite when I lived in Hawaii.

I hope your week is off to a great start.

I have a little plastic token for my shopping trolley...I keep it very very safe in a special holder attached to my car keys so it's always available when I go shopping...I seem to never have a 1 euro coin on me for the trolley so my token is like a piece of gold!

I love your shopping and menu posts...they fascinate me.

But I agree with ex-shammickite...I would vomit if my fish were presented like that - it must be cooked right through...I hate any kind of vaguely raw food.

Pineapples with red hot chilli peppers and icecream? Yuk! I love chillis, but in Mexican food and not in dessert.

Are you imitating the Frenchs now ?? They don't talk about weather as normal humans do, no they always talk about food, and especially french food. In other words if a french would look at your appetizing plates, they would probably be for the garbadge, because it's NOT french. I am not a racist here, but French people say that of themselves too !

I have always said I would try almost anything once. I'm not sure about the cod slivers but I would definitely try the peppered pineapple, esp. with real vanilla ice cream. You're my kind of man, Tor! Must be our age. :)

Lisa : Thank you. Remember no Macadamia to dogs (they can die from it). And shopping cart deposit is quite usual in Europe. Saw it first time in France in the early 80’s.

Mother of Invention: Your welcome. Good food and variations, part of our lives.

lime: The icecream cool down the hot pepper

Wendz: We too have some metalic tokens, but I tend to forget them
The fish on the photo is like I bought them, so I kept the finished result revealed

Puss-in-Boots: Try it and be surprised

ShadowFalcon: On-line shopping I find convenient for ”hard” goods, not for fresh food. I want to have full control of the quality

Gattina: Well, I used to be in France every year between 1964-1993. Maybe it’s still a bit French in me

Ginnie: I’m sure you would love the cod slivers, when you see it prepared and served.
And I agree: It is really something for the 45 Vintage

@@@@@@
PS. We are still alive. Home made fish au gratin for dinner to day.
(8 servings made).
