On a Sunny Saturday
Some times snow is beautiful when the Sun shines from a bright blue sky and the Snow is angelwhite. But this Saturday, March 4, 2006, we had to change all our plans for the weekend. My cousin (we own the estate together, but we have divided it "privately") called me and asked whether or not I had shuffled the snow off the roofs. If not, you better be doing it now, before the snow became wet; and your roofs are broken.

We must go out and shuffle it off.
- What, to our Summerhouse now. We have so much to do here.....
Respectable discussion followed. Winterclothes on, picked up a alumnium spade and a snowshuffle.
Into the car we went and set off on route for Summerhouse. Passing the 5 tunnels, one 4,5 miles sub-sea, and up the last steep hill (18 degrees). Wintertyres helps, if in doubt.
Yes, it was snow on the roofs. I very quickly understood: Snow-shuffle. Forget it. Drive to the nearest ironmonger and by another alumnium spade. I so did. 30 dollars. For a safe roof: OK.
See that clever girl up there, she's so strong, you want even imagine.
Back home - bathtube, with mineralsalt. And hot soup. Alle the heavy snow-lifting and shuffling together with a couple of wine (glasses) put us early to bed. Too exhausted but to sleep. LoL.

See that clever girl up there, she's so strong, you want even imagine.Next day, also blue sky and sunshine, we were very stiff indeed, and moved like 80 year old's with sticks and bowed backs. Even the local horse felt pity for the oldies, when we took a short walk nearby. So be prepared, for all eventualities. Even a snowfall or more.

yeah,snow is like a sparkling diamond whenever sets by the sun :)
thats the biggest job and sacrifices of the people who live in snowy area,they have to clean the roof and its too risky,right?

What a fantastic story, Tor, told as only you can tell it. I do think you need to share some of that snow with the rest of us, even from a year ago! In fact, I bet you wish you had some of it yourself right now!
Gee, what a lot of snow ! I am not at all used to it. When we have a LOT of snow it's maybe 20 cm ! Instead we have rain lol !

That was last year, I think you don't have quite as much snow this year? We have very cold temperatures today in S Ontario,
-18C overnight! But not very much snow yet. I only snow-shovel the drive, not the roof!

Wow! I can't imagine that amount of snow on a roof. And you had to shovel it off, no wonder you were both too tired to do anything but sleep (giggle).

Yes, we finally got winter here in Norway and that was about time! We've been to the winter Olympic town Lillehammer and had the same scenery - I'll post about it tomorrow:-)

Here it has started to snow again, so we never no how much it ends up with this season. Last winter, we shoveled the roof as late as March 4.

To live in a country with snowy winters, normally causes no problems in a modern world. But when heavy wind, in the mountains, roads are blocked, people get lost, el-suply broken... but it is much better with white snow, than without during the long and dark winternights - so in great contrast to the summernights - so unbelieveable light - even with sun 24 hours.
And now, snowing again...
